If this is the case, you will see Face ID keep telling you to adjust your head or take very weird angle to add new face. Face ID failed, Apple fault. Pry open the glass cover with a blade. We can see that there are many holes on the flood illuminator that are arranged in a matrix of 11x11. The chip is connected to the circuit board with the help of gold wires. Once water damaged, these holes can be blocked. And you will be faced up with Face ID failure.
Same here on a 13 Pro Max. It stopped working, so I reset Face-ID, face not recognised on setup try. Called Apple Support for a replacement. Day after, able to setup Face-ID again. Worked for 1hr. then iPhone didn't check Face-ID but asked for PIN/PW again. Reset Face-ID, face not recognised on next Face-ID setup try.

Some aftermarket fixes don't have a problem if the Face ID components don't lose contact, but there are no guarantees. If it's aftermarket, you're not going to get this fixed without going to Apple or an AASP and getting an OEM screen assembly replacement. They simply won't reset it with an aftermarket replacement.
