And that is wrong about the DLC, who ever told you that. The DLC works just fine. I bought all of the DLC myself and used it also.Dragon Age 2 is essentially “DAI: the Prologue”. The combat is really satisfying in 2 as well. Alternatively would definitely recommend getting the DLC for DAI. I liked dragon age origins the first time I played it, but have found myself completely unable to play it since my first time many years ago. The gameplay feels like a slog.
I’ll tack on - the various item DLC’s work, and the other campaigns DLC’s are selectable (Leliana’s Song, Awakening, etc). The one DLC dude at camp who starts a mission is also there. But Shale’s town is just… not on the map.

This would be the ultimate edition, where as DA2 I'd have to get the DLC if they're worth buying. I've heard time and time again that Dragon Age 2 is either terrible, or that it's good but doesn't live up to it's predecessor due to limited locations, re-used dungeons and so on. Origins, on the other hand, is considered one of the best games
